Man Utd Set To Seal Lisandro Martinez Transfer As De Jong Remains Key Target

Manchester United is nearing a deal to sign Lisandro Martinez at £46.5 million ($55 million). Negotiations with Ajax are nearing completion, with a deal set to be concluded to become Erik ten Hag’s second signing of the summer.

According to GOAL, United moved ahead of competing bids Arsenal in the notion that Martinez preferred a move to Old Trafford.

Ajax had been unwilling to sell, turning down prior offers of about £40 million ($47 million). The Argentina international, on the other hand, made it plain that he wish to come to the Premier League and work with Ten Hag, who was his coach at the Dutch champions.

How Did Manchester United Beat Arsenal In The Quest To Sign Martinez?

As the team traveled last week for their tour of Thailand and Australia, United’s chief executive, Richard Arnold, and football director, John Murtough, remained on the ground to complete their transfer business.

They were in Barca this week to strengthen negotiations for their top target, Frenkie de Jong, with Martinez next on their list of priorities.

Although United waited to express their interest in Martinez, they were aware that a price of between £45 and £50 million would be sufficient to finalize the deal after seeing lesser offers from Arsenal denied.

The player’s resolve to team up with Ten Hag has also proven crucial.

Arnold and Murtough met with representatives in Barcelona this week in an attempt to find a solution, while Barcelona’s contract for Raphinha only intensifies their need to sell to generate finances.

United remain optimistic. Christian Eriksen will complete the necessary paperwork for his three-year deal in time to travel to Australia with the team.

Ten Hag has also stated the need for forward additions, but United are £20 million ($24 million) behind of Ajax’s asking price for Brazilian winger Antony.
