United has to win the Europa League, the last remaining competition, to guarantee European football at Old Trafford the following season after falling to 14th place in the Premier League.
Sheringham, a former Man Utd striker, believes that former captain Keane would be the ideal person to enter the dressing room and use his straightforward, unyielding attitude to tell the players some hard facts.
It follows former Red Devils player Mikael Silvestre’s assertion that Keane ought to return to Old Trafford.
He said: “You know, your John Terrys, your Tony Adams, your Roy Keanes, players that lead by example and make sure other people are doing their jobs.
No one’s doing that at Manchester United.
So, get Roy Keane in there to ruffle a few feathers, make sure that they all understand what they should be doing and do it.
Sheringham, who won the Treble with United in 1999, also believes that if Sir Alex Ferguson had remained in charge, he would have changed the present team’s fortunes, reports Mirror.
