Manager Aims Fresh Dig At Newcastle United After Being ‘Shoved Out’ By Mike Ashley

Mike Ashley made many mistakes as Newcastle United’s owner.

The British millionaire experienced a miserable time at St James’ Park, which is why there were such loud celebrations when his Newcastle United departure was confirmed.

During his tenure as owner, Mike Ashley frequently outraged fans. From a lack of ambition to the handling of Jonas Gutierrez, Ashley consistently made decisions that went against the wishes of the fans.

However, he did not sack managers too often at Newcastle United. It only happened three times: Sam Allardyce, Chris Hughton, and Steve McClaren were removed of their roles. John Carver was also terminated, having been warned he would not be able to return to his post as assistant manager after his disastrous spell as caretaker manager in 2015 nearly ended in relegation. Sam Allardyce parallels his Newcastle United leaving to Blackburn Rovers’ departure.

Allardyce was Newcastle United’s manager when Ashley purchased the club in the summer of 2007. He had arrived at St James’ Park just over a week before Ashley began to buy Newcastle United stock.

Big Sam barely lasted half a season on Tyneside, as Ashley fired Allardyce in January 2008.

It was a popular decision at the time, as Newcastle fans were critical of Allardyce’s management. Meanwhile, Kevin Keegan took over for him.

Allardyce has now remarked on his departure from Newcastle, comparing it to leaving Blackburn Rovers when they were taken over.

On the No Tippy Tappy Podcast, Allardyce stated, “Unfortunately, this [becoming Blackburn manager] did not last long, like Newcastle. It took longer than Newcastle to be fired, but it happened in the end. When the club was taken over, I was thrown out the door, just like at Newcastle.

“Newcastle got relegated after I left, and so did Blackburn Rovers, so there you go.”
