Manchester City confident of signing Sanchez after holding talks

Manchester City are confident of signing Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez this summer after talks in London this weekend, according to reports.

Sanchez, 28, is out of contract at the Emirates in 12 months’ time and is yet to sign a new deal with the Gunners.

Arsenal finished outside of the top four last season and will therefore compete in the Europa League next term, something Sanchez is desperate to avoid.

Bayern Munich pose a serious threat to City’s interest in Sanchez but the Chilean would prefer to reunite with Pep Guardiola in the north-west, according to Goal.

Guardiola signed Sanchez from Udinese when he was Barcelona boss in 2012 and City director of football Txiki Begiristain was in London on the weekend to discuss a deal.

Arsenal, for their part, would prefer Sanchez to move abroad but are resigned to losing the former Barcelona man this summer.

City have moved quickly in the transfer market so far and are expected to tie up deals for Ederson and Benjamin Mendy in the coming days to add to their capture of Bernardo Silva last week.

Guardiola spent around £155m during his first summer at the club but he’s expected to surpass that this time around after a disappointing debut campaign in England.
