Manchester United are aiming to secure a £60million deal to bring Alvaro Morata to Old Trafford by the end of the week, according to reports.
Jose Mourinho made the Spain international his top striker target earlier in the summer after giving up on Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann.
The former Chelsea boss was said to be growing frustrated by United’s lack of progress in their pursuit of the 24-year-old, who is understood to be keen on a switch.
But the Red Devils made significant progress on the deal over the weekend and The Sun say a move could be completed as early as Thursday.
Morata’s father and agent met Real Madrid officials on Monday with a switch to the Theatre of Dreams in danger of stagnating.
However, it is believed Morata has been open to leaving the Bernabeu for several months, keen to become the talisman at United and work with his former manager Mourinho.
Real initially hoped to recoup £80m for the attacker, who scored 15 league goals last season, but it is claimed the La Liga giants have relented on their asking price.
