On Saturday night, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola made headlines when he disclosed that Kyle Walker, the team’s captain, had inquired about leaving the Etihad Stadium to play overseas.
For the past year or so, Walker has been connected to a move away from City, and he was rumored to have been close to joining German powerhouse Bayern Munich.
The 34-year-old did not play in Saturday’s 8-0 FA Cup third-round victory against Salford City, and Guardiola acknowledged that Walker had requested to quit the team this month. Reported by Manchester Evening News.
“It’s not easy for me to say because I should tell him but he’s not here,” Guardiola remarked. “Kyle asked to look into the possibility of playing overseas two days ago. He inquired two years ago following the treble; Bayern Munich was interested, but the offer was insufficient.
