Manchester United Considering Move For Santiago Arias

Manchester United are interested in signing experienced defender Santiago Arias on a free transfer. He previously played for Atletico Madrid and is expected to provide backup for Diogo Dalot.

The Red Devils were said to be interested in bringing in a new right-back over the summer, but the window closed, leaving Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka as the only alternatives in that position.

Dalot has started every game since the second part of last season, and the Portugal international has shown to be a key player under new head coach Erik ten Hag so far.

However, Wan-Bissaka has reportedly been told that he is surplus to requirements, with the Englishman not believed to be in the manager’s plans forging ahead.

Ethan Laird was permitted to join Queens Park Rangers over the summer, while Brandon Williams is now injured and out of favour, leaving the Red Devils devoid of options at right-back.

Manchester United To Sign Santiago Arias?

The 20-time English champions are looking to bring Santiago Arias to the club as cover in that part of the field, according to journalist Johnson Saenz.

Saenz adds that the Colombian has already ‘packed his bags,’ with Manchester United willing to offer him a two-year deal to make the move to Old Trafford.

The 30-year-old has been without a club since leaving Atletico Madrid on a free transfer in June, after making 51 appearances for the capital giants.

Santiago Arias has previously played for Sporting Lisbon and PSV Eindhoven in his professional career, as well as loan spells at Bayer Leverkusen and Granada during his time at Atletico.

The defender has played 54 times for Colombia, including two World Cups, including a match against England in 2018.

Santiago Arias spent the season on loan with Granada in La Liga, making 14 appearances and scoring once, but he is now seeking for a new team.

The addition of the South American might force Wan-Bissaka to leave Old Trafford in January, with Crystal Palace reportedly showing an interest in their former prodigy over the summer.
