Manchester United are in talks with Barcelona over the possibility of signing right-back Sergino Dest on a season-long loan.
The 21-year-old has not played for the Catalan club this season, and was not even on the bench for their last two La Liga games against Real Sociedad and Real Valladolid.
Barcelona manager Xavi has informed United States international that he is not in his plans for the season, despite the fact that the club is still looking to secure a right-back before the deadline.
According to a recent report, Erik ten Hag’s side were thinking about making a move for the defender before the deadline, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka possibly on his way out.
Man United’s first-choice right-back is Diogo Dalot, but Wan-Bissaka’s exit would leave the Premier League club devoid of options in that position.
The 20-time English champions have held ‘exploratory talks’ with Barcelona about a potential loan deal for the American, according to the Manchester Evening News.
According to the report, Ten Hag’s side sees Dest as a better option than Wan-Bissaka, and a move for the Barcelona defender is possible if the former Crystal Palace youngster leaves before the deadline.
West Ham United and Crystal Palace are both rumoured to be interested in signing Wan-Bissaka, who was dropped from Manchester United’s starting lineup in the second half of last season.
Man United have already signed Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen, Lisandro Martinez, and Casemiro this summer, and an agreement has been reached with Ajax attacker Antony.

How Did Dest Perform At Barcelona?
Dest has three years left on his contract at Camp Nou, having signed a five-year deal with the club after joining from Ajax in October 2020.
Despite some injury issues, the right-back was a regular during the 2021-22 season, making 31 games in all competitions and contributing three assists, but he has since been considered surplus to needs by Barcelona coach Xavi.
Dest worked under Ten Hag at Ajax, and the new Manchester United manager is said to be eager for a reunion in the closing days of the transfer window.
