Bruno Fernandes stated Manchester United’s players will not require “extra energy” to inspire themselves to defeat Manchester City in the derby this weekend.
United rallied from behind to defeat FC Viktoria Plzen 2-1 in the Europa League league phase on Thursday night.
Manchester City will host United at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, and Pep Guardiola’s side is in a crisis, having won only once in their last ten games.
Both Manchester clubs are having poor seasons. City became the first club to win four Premier League titles in a row last season, but they are suffering from a massive hangover, while United sit 13th in the table, with Ruben Amorim urgently trying to improve.
Fernandes was questioned about the Manchester derby after United’s Europa League victory, and he told MUTV that his teammates won’t need any extra motivation to perform at the Etihad.
“These kind of games don’t need extra energy,” he told me. “You understand what it means to play a Manchester derby, and how important it is to the city and its fans, so we must do everything we can to win.

“Also, as I previously stated, we are not in the position we would like to be in the Premier League, and the same is true in the Europa League, so we need points and wins. It’s Manchester City in the Manchester Derby, but it’s simply another game that we need to win.”
Fernandes remarked on his performance against Plzen, saying, “We knew it would be a tough game. They run a lot and use man marking, making it difficult to get on the ball and get away from their opponents.
