Manchester United have reportedly been told to pay £100m up front to sign Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur this summer.
Kane has emerged as a potential target for the Red Devils, who are looking to sign a high-profile striker ahead of the 2023-24 season.
The England international is nearing the end of his current contract and plans to discuss his future with the club at the end of the season.
Kane, who is yet to win a major trophy in his career, will finish another season without a trophy after Tottenham were relegated from the FA Cup and Champions League earlier this month.
According to The Times, Manchester United believes Tottenham would want a £100m up-front payment if they were to consider selling their most valued asset.
Transfer fees are often paid in instalments by clubs, and Tottenham’s stance is believed to be intended to deter potential bidders.
Spurs are quietly optimistic that their asking price will let them keep Kane for another season.
However, according to a recent report, Manchester United are willing to make the Englishman the most expensive British player of all time, which would require the Red Devils to outbid Manchester City for Jack Grealish in 2021.

Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are also interested, with the latter still looking for Robert Lewandowski’s replacement.
A move abroad would jeopardize Kane’s prospects of reaching Alan Shearer’s Premier League goal record of 260, hence the 29-year-old prefers to stay in England.
Although Spurs face the prospect of Kane leaving on a free transfer in 2024, they are content for him to complete the final year of his current contract.
