Manchester United’s managers are “clearly not happy” with the club’s start to the season, in a damning assessment of Erik ten Hag’s ongoing problems as manager.
Ten Hag survived the international break despite a five-game losing record, including a 3-0 home defeat at the hands of Tottenham, generating renewed doubts about his competence on the job.
Ten Hag said ahead of the return to Premier League play that he had not received guarantees from the United hierarchy concerning his position, but blamed the media for “creating fairy tales” and “lies” about a probable dismissal.

“The noise is only coming from the media, from you guys,” according to him. “From some of you; not all of you, but some. Bringing up stories, making up stories, fabricating fairy tales, generating commotion, and spreading lies. I believe we’re all on the same page in this club. I said this before the break to various journalists, and they didn’t believe me. I’ve seen the reports, but things are peaceful inside the club.
“Of course, we’re talking about where we are, how unhappy we are, and what we need to do to turn the corner, as well as a strategy for doing so. But, eventually, we are quiet, composed, we stay where we are, we adhere to the strategy, and we are confident we will succeed.”
The following day, United rallied from behind to defeat Brentford at Old Trafford, relieving some of the strain on Ten Hag, but a fans’ forum meeting earlier in the week reaffirmed ill will behind the scenes.
“There have been changes both on and off the pitch, with [sporting director] Dan Ashworth and [technical director] Jason Wilcox joining the club.” They are altering our sporting structure off the field.
