Manchester United are reportedly expected to release five players on a free transfer this summer, Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe.
With United still fighting for a place in the top four of the Premier League table, Erik ten Hag is looking to bolster his squad ahead of the 2023-24 season.
In order to cut the gap on Manchester City and Arsenal, the club is expected to make additions in central defense, central midfield, and attack.
However, major transfers from Old Trafford are inevitable, with any new faces in line to replace squad members deemed surplus to needs.
Players whose contracts expire at the end of June will be among those leaving, with five players expected to leave.
Axel Tuanzebe, Phil Jones, Ethan Galbraith, Ondrej Mastny, and Charlie Wellens are all set to become free agents, according to Manchester Evening News.
The first two names come as little surprise, having been barred from Old Trafford both before and during Ten Hag’s rule.
Tuanzebe started out as a great prospect at the Theatre of Dreams, and his value rose after assisting Aston Villa win promotion through the Championship playoffs in 2018-19.
However, the 25-year-old defender made just five games on loan at Stoke City during the second part of the season, and will leave United with 37 appearances.

Jones has been hampered by injury troubles, limiting him to just 13 games in the last four seasons, and his 11-year stint will end with 229 appearances.
Midfielder Galbraith has had a productive season with Salford City, contributing four goals and three assists in 32 League Two appearances, but he will be allowed to depart United.
