Manchester United have reportedly reached an agreement with Besiktas to sign Wout Weghorst on loan.
The Netherlands international, who is on loan at Besiktas from Burnley, has eight goals and four assists in 18 appearances this season, and he also scored twice in his country’s 2022 World Cup quarterfinal against Argentina.
Weghorst has recently emerged as a top target for United, who are looking to bolster their forwards line after Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract was terminated in November.
Although he appeared to bid farewell to Besiktas fans after scoring against Kasimpasa on Saturday, the club’s sporting director Ceyhun Kazanci questioned the forward’s actions and dismissed reports of a possible exit.
The Turkish club also issued a statement dismissing rumours that Weghorst would be leaving soon.
However, according to a recent report, talks between the Red Devils and the player’s parent club are still ongoing.
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, United and Burnley have reached a verbal agreement for Weghorst to join them on loan.
As per the report, Besiktas will receive around €3m (£2.65m) in compensation for Weghorst’s loan being terminated.
However, there is still work to be done, as the Turkish behemoths are only willing to agree to the deal if they can sign an adequate replacement.

If the Dutchman completes his loan move to Old Trafford, he will strengthen Erik ten Hag’s centre-forward options, which currently include Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford.
Weghorst failed to make an impact in 20 appearances for Burnley, scoring two goals and providing three assists.
Prior to joining the current Championship leaders, Weghorst had 70 goals and 22 assists in 144 games for Wolfsburg across all competitions.
