Manchester United remain unbeaten when Carrick plays this season

Manchester United have not lost a game when central midfielder Michael Carrick has played this season.

The 35-year-old played the full 90 minutes against Arsenal at Old Trafford on Saturday, as Juan Mata opened the scoring after 68 minutes, before the Gunners’ Olivier Giroud netted a last-minute equaliser.

The England international has made seven appearances in all competitions for Jose Mourinho’s side this season, with 18 goals scored in those games.

Carrick has scored one goal this season in their 3-1 EFL Cup win over Northampton Town, while he has also been part of the action in their Community Shield win over Leicester City, EFL Cup win over Manchester City, 4-1 victory over Fenerbahce in the Europa League and Premier League fixture against the Foxes, Swansea and the Gunners.

Carrick has made 264 appearances for the Red Devils in his 10 years at the club, and recently admitted he is realistic about his future at Old Trafford, despite his experience and performances so far this season.

“There’s always a chance of that (not playing for Manchester United next season),” Carrick told Sky Sports. “It’s such a great club with great players and you can’t take it for granted. Thankfully, I’m here this season and playing my part, and hopefully I can play more of my part in the months ahead.

“As I said, strive for success and try to get some sort of silverware or trophy, because that’s why we’re here.”

Mourinho’s side are currently sixth in the Premier League, five points behind Tottenham Hotspur, ahead of their clash with West Ham on next Sunday – before they host Feyenoord in the Europa League on Thursday.
