Manchester United has revealed the overall cost of the recent managerial change at Old Trafford, which could affect the January transfer budget.
United confirmed Erik ten Hag’s dismissal in October, following the Premier League defeat in July. The decision comes months after the Dutchman signed a new contract.
The club’s latest financial report now reveals that it cost a total of £10.4 million to pay off Ten Hag and members of his coaching staff. Ruud van Nistelrooy took charge of four games on an interim basis while the club looked for a new head coach, but he was among those who left following Ruben Amorim’s appointment.
According to the report, the arrival of the former Sporting CP manager and his backroom team cost over £11 million. The Portuguese coach had a €10 million (£8.4 million) release clause in his Sporting contract, which United exercised, with additional payments expected to fall on the backroom staff.
Overall, the managerial move cost United £21.4 million. Given the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability regulations, this could be considered when Amorim receives a transfer budget for the forthcoming January window.

Amorim’s entrance to United was confirmed at the beginning of the month, but he did not formally join until November 11. He took command of United’s first game last Saturday, a 1-1 draw with newly promoted Ipswich Town at Portman Road.
United return to Premier League action tonight (Thursday) against Bodo/Glimt at Old Trafford (8pm kick-off). It will be the new head coach’s first home game as manager of the club.
