Manchester United Set To Beat Liverpool To A £50 Million Priority Signing, as Aston Villa Look For A Bargain Midfielder

It’s time for Thursday’s quickfire round-up of some of the biggest and wildest new Premier League transfer speculations – and today has been a great day for Manchester United stories, so we’ll start there.

Perhaps the most notable allegation we’ve seen comes from TBR Football, who claim that Ruben Amorim’s team has “joined Liverpool in talks” over Bayer Leverkusen wing-back Jeremie Frimpong, who was expected to be the likely successor to the leaving Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The Dutchman, who is worth up to £50 million, is now “firmly on United radar” as they seek to outbid their regional rivals for a vital acquisition. The move comes after they failed to negotiate a deal for Geovany Quenda, who will join Chelsea.

Meanwhile, Italian publication Tuttomercato believes that United is interested in another £50 million player, Atalanta and Nigeria winger Ademola Lookman. Atalanta are hoping to move their best player permanently this summer after a schism developed between the player and his management. Lookman is now believed to have “bags in hand”. Newcastle United and Juventus have also expressed interest.

The former Brighton man is a “confirmed target” for Unai Emery with Spurs unsurprisingly “willing to sell” so long as their valuation is met – although the report’s alleged price tag seems remarkably high.
