Robbie Savage believes that Manchester United have endured their most difficult part of the season and will now string a run together that will see the club finish in the top four – and above rivals Manchester City.
United have won their last two matches in the Premier League but the prior run saw them achieve victory in just one of eight league contests, which means Jose Mourinho’s side are in sixth place.
On the other side of Manchester, Pep Guardiola’s City are also struggling for form with the blue team sitting in fourth after an inconsistent run of form.
Although it is City that are currently higher in the league, BT Sport pundit Savage feels that United are currently playing better football and Mourinho has gotten through the worst period he will suffer this season.
With this in mind, along with City’s struggles, the former Wales midfielder has backed United to put together a series of wins and finish above City.
Savage told the Daily Mirror: “On current form in the battle to rule Manchester, Jose Mourinho looks like a man on the march while Pep Guardiola is only shuffling.
“I have been far more impressed with Manchester United over the last six weeks than with Man City, who have stalled after making such an impressive start in the Premier League.
“I think the worst is over for Mourinho at Old Trafford now. Of all the top- four contenders, they look most capable of stringing together a run of six or seven wins.
“The table doesn’t lie, and United may not win the title – but I still think they will finish above City.”
