At the World Cup in Qatar, Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez greatly pleased his would-be teammate, Marc Cucurella.
Marc Cucurella revealed he had to use his phone to conduct a search after seeing Enzo Fernandez’s performance at the 2022 FIFA World Cup as he didn’t know where the new Chelsea acquisition played.
During the World Cup, Fernandez was among the best players and helped Argentina win its third title.
Despite starting the tournament off on the bench against Saudi Arabia, Fernandez gradually established himself as an unstoppable first XI star in the following contests.
The 22-year-old went on to take home the trophy for young player of the competition.
And several European powerhouses were drawn to his performances, Chelsea moved quickly to make Fernandez the most expensive signing in Premier League history at £106.8m.
What Did Cucurella Say About His Chelsea Teammate?
Cucurella was watching the World Cup to see his former Brighton teammate Alexis Mac Allister but was left astonished by Fernandez’s performance. He wasn’t familiar with the former Benfica player then but we daresay he is up to speed now..
The left-back explained to ESPN Sports Centre how he encountered the midfielder while watching Argentina play.
“I liked to watch matches in which my friends were playing. So I was watching Argentina because of Alexis,” Cucurella said.
‘ I think I said, “I really like number 24; he’s very good!” But I didn’t even know where he played! I had to go and search on my phone!

“As I watched more games, I told my family and friends that I really liked him a lot.” And then he came to Chelsea!
Who would have guessed they would both become teammates? His addition has undoubtedly been a blessing since it has greatly improved Chelsea’s midfield.
Since he is young, he established his dominance quickly and is currently the midfield’s beating heart for the Blues. Despite Chelsea’s 2-2 draw with Everton on Saturday, he was again in the spotlight.
