Marcelo says Cristiano Ronaldo “deserves a lot of credit” for everything he’s ever done, and is there when his team needs him – following his last-minute winner against Getafe.
The Madrid striker scored in the 85th minute in the La Liga match to make the scoreline 2-1, which secured a record-setting 13th-straight victory away from home and ensured that the club kept the pressure at the top of the table to challenge for the title.
Ronaldo marked his first La Liga goal in style as he netted home and took home a crucial three points for his team – and his teammate Marcelo has hailed the Portuguese forward, who stated that he is an indispensable player after all that he has given throughout his years at the Bernabeu.
“Ronaldo? We know what he can give Madrid, if he doesn’t score in two games…” said the Brazilian defender in his post-match interview.
“He deserves a lot of credit for everything he’s done, and he’s there when we need him.”
Madrid, who were playing without Gareth Bale – who was injured – started the match fifth in La Liga and opened the scoring just before half-time through a Karim Benzema goal.
Hosts Getafe equalised in the second half after Jorge Molina slid the ball past ‘keeper Kiko Casilla. Ronaldo had missed a fine chance from two yards out, but didn’t end up ruing his mistake as he went on to score the winner from Isco’s pass.
“We’re trying to improve with each match in order to close the gap and we’re fighting to get to the top of the table,” said Marcelo.
Real Madrid are five points behind league leaders Barcelona, and face Spurs in the Champions League on Tuesday.
