England centre Joe Marchant says he’s relishing the prospect of a six-moth deal with Super Rugby outfit Auckland Blues. The 23-year-old had a sabbatical clause written into his contract at Harlequins and now the youngster has been given leave to play for the Blues between January and June next year before returning to Quins. With the chance to test himself against some of the best players in the southern hemisphere, Marchant says he can’t wait to get down to the New Zealand capital and absorb as much as he can in a different culture. He said: “Firstly, I could not be more grateful to Harlequins for allowing me this opportunity to expand and grow my game. “The club has supported me every step of the way in my career to date and proven that Harlequins is still willing to support my growth as an individual. “I am really excited to be given the chance to experience playing in Super Rugby. I am sure that I will learn a lot and I can’t wait to bring my learnings back to the club.”
