Maresca Risks Wrath Over Palmer Prediction And Tottenham Support

Recently, Enzo Maresca relationship with Chelsea supporters has been a little rocky. In light of this, it was probably not the best idea for him to declare his support for their rivals, Tottenham Hotspur.

The 45-year-old tactician’s attention will shift to the UEFA Conference League on Thursday, when Chelsea play FC Copenhagen in an attempt to keep their perfect winning record.

With a 2-1 lead going into the second leg at Stamford Bridge, Maresca would be under pressure if they lost. The supporters who cheered his name earlier in the season are beginning to turn against the struggling manager, and he did himself no favors by declaring he would be rooting for Spurs in the Europa League.

“It’s an English team, I hope for England they [Spurs] go through that game,” he said on Wednesday as reported by Daily Express.

“You never know, sometimes it is better to play at home and sometimes away. We need to be focused on us and then we will see.”

During the same press conference, Maresca was also asked if he would keep choosing Cole Palmer to take penalties.

There was no question about the 22-year-old’s ability right away, as he had scored in 12 of his 13 prior efforts.

Rather, the former Leicester manager aimed to relieve Palmer’s pressure by forecasting that he will see more penalties saved in the future.

“Absolutely. I said Cole is going to miss more penalties and the reason why is because he is the one in charge to shoot the penalties.

If you don’t shoot, you don’t miss,” he added. “So I don’t have any doubts that he is going to miss more penalties in the future.”
