Marseille fans have used Sunday’s match with Monaco as a chance to tell Didier Drogba they don’t want him to return to the club, displaying a banner that tells the striker to “go back to China”.
Drogba is currently a free agent having left MLS side Montreal Impact in November and has been linked with a return to the Ligue 1 club in January.
The 38-year-old spent just one season at Marseille before moving to Chelsea in 2004, where he became one of Europe’s top strikers, and the experienced forward has reportedly indicated he would like to return to his former side before he retires.
However Marseille fans have unfurled a banner during their clash with Monaco which emphatically tells Drogba they have no interest in seeing him play for their club again.
The notice asks Drogba to stop saying he loves the club and told him to “go back to China”, in reference to his time with Shanghai Shenhua.
The banner read: “Drogba – stop saying you love Marseille. You earn more in a month than we do in our lives. Go back to China”
Despite Marseille’s stance a move to Brazil with Corinthians could be on the cards with the club confirming earlier this week that a contract offer had been made to the player.
