Martin Dubravka Completes Medical Ahead Of Manchester United Move, Announcement Imminent

Manchester United are set to finalise the transfer of Martin Dubravka after the goalkeeper completed his medical today without issue.

The 33-year-old has emerged as the Red Devils’ main choice to replace Dean Henderson, who will spend the 2022-23 season on loan with Nottingham Forest.

United are said to have reached an agreement with Newcastle to sign Dubravka on a season-long loan with a £5m buyout option.

According to a recent report, the Slovakian goalkeeper has also accepted personal terms with the 20-time Premier League champions and is eager to join them at Old Trafford.

Dubravka arrived at United’s Carrington training complex on Tuesday afternoon for his medical, which he completed later that evening, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Romano adds that the goalie is set to sign his contract with United on Wednesday morning, with an official announcement following.

How Did Dubravka Fare at Newcastle?

Dubravka has spent the previous four years at Newcastle, joining from Sparta Prague in 2018, and has had a total of 130 appearances for the Magpies across all competitions.

However, the 29-cap Slovakia international has lost his spot as the club’s number one to summer signing Nick Pope, who has started all four of Newcastle’s Premier League games.

Dubravka, who is said to be looking for a new challenge, was not named to the matchday squad for Wolverhampton Wanderers’ 1-1 draw last weekend.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has admitted that discussions have taken place between the two sides over a move for Dubravka, however he has confessed that he would prefer to keep the goalie.

“Discussions have taken place between the clubs. I don’t think anything is concluded as I sit here now. From my perspective, I’m sad if Martin does leave, sad to see him go,” Howe said at a press conference ahead of Wednesday’s fixture away at Liverpool.

“It’s certainly not something we necessarily wanted as a football club, but we understand there are always two sides to every story.”
