Arsenal’s pursuit of Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi may be hijacked by Real Madrid, reports say that Arsenal has had a long-standing interest in Zubimendi, who has a £51 million release clause in his contract.
It was previously reported that Arsenal were in advanced talks to sign Zubimendi this summer, with the club hoping to replace Thomas Partey and Jorginho, who are due to leave the Emirates when their contracts expire at the end of the season.
However, according to Spanish rumors, Madrid will compete fiercely for Zubimendi’s signature. According to Spanish outlet AS, Zubimendi is considered a potential replacement for Toni Kroos, who retired last summer.

Vitinha, the star of Paris Saint-Germain, is also rumored to be on their radar, although Zubimendi would be a less expensive signing due to his release clause. El Partidazo de COPE reports that Zubimendi’s representative is ‘listening to bids’ for the midfielder, and Madrid president Florentino Perez is’making his move’.
However, it is important to note that the final decision will be made by the player, and it is unclear where Zubimendi will play next season. The Spain international was extensively linked with a move to Liverpool last summer, but ultimately chose to stay at Sociedad.
Zubimendi told El Diario Vasco that his choice to reject Liverpool came as a surprise to him while on holiday. It was not anything I had planned. I responded when the situation arose.
“It was an uncomfortable period for me, but after considering the advantages and cons, I decided that staying was the best option. I do not believe in ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ opportunities. If you are talented and desire to do anything, it will come to you.
