Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez says he is enjoying his regular run under Antonio Conte. The 22-year-old was signed last season by former coach Luciano Spalletti from Racing Club in his homeland of Argentina.
However, he was never given an extended run out in the first team and only made 13 Serie starts for his old coach.
His goalscoring record suffered because of his lack of minutes and he only registered nine goals all season.
Conte has seen something he likes in the forward though, and Martinez has played much more regularly this season.
He has started six of their Serie A games this season and made 11 appearances in total.
Those games have yielded six goals, and he scored the opener against Borussia Dortmund in their Champions League group match on Wednesday evening.
He missed a penalty late in the second half but Antonio Candreva’s injury-time strike sealed the 2-0 win for the Nerazzurri.
Martinez has tended to partner Romelu Lukaku up front this season after the Belgian’s summer arrival from Manchester United and he has scored five goals so far.
The Argentine, speaking after the Dortmund game, has thanked Conte for giving him game time and has also appeared to take a swipe at Spalletti. “?I always try to work, to become great together with Inter. I look to follow the instructions of the coach and to improve the chemistry of the game with my teammates,” he said. “I am happy to play many minutes, unlike last year: when you enter at the end of every game, you have little time to show your qualities. I thank the coach.”
