Javier Mascherano has admitted that it could be impossible to leave Spanish giants Barcelona.
The Argentina defender stunned the Nou Camp club when reports filtered out just hours after they secured the double that el jefecito (the little boss) had agreed a three-year deal with Juventus.
While teammate Dani Alves had done the same, and could leave because of a break clause in his contract, Mascherano’s exit would need Barcelona to accept a bid from the Italian champions.
And with the Nou Camp club dismissing the possibility out of hand, a philosophical Mascherano appeared to admit he was now unlikely to be departing this summer.
“Barça have let me know they have no intention of letting me leave,” he said.
“They are really happy with me. And when a club, even more so this club, put these conditions on you, it’s difficult to leave. Above all keeping in mind that I’m not going to force anything. No-one deserves that.”
“I have a contract with Barça and I say the same as Robert Fernandez [said]. We have spoken since January, not just professionally, but also personally. With all the people [at the club] I have a great relationship, also with the directors.
“They know what I think. They have treated me well, I have no complaints. Even though sometimes things happen which make you reconsider things.
“In any case, I won’t do anything that would cloud my relationship with Barça. It’s always been really good and the day I leave the club I don’t want to go with a bad taste in my mouth.”
