Mason Mount claims that his Chelsea teammates have been “battering” him about his recent Player of the Match award and believes that he wasn’t deserving of being singled out following the Champions League victory over Dinamo Zagreb.
Graham Potter’s team bounced back from a disastrous 4-1 loss to his old club Brighton in the Premier League on Saturday to finish strong against Zagreb in the Champions League.
Bruno Petkovic gave the visitors an unexpected advantage at Stamford Bridge, but Raheem Sterling quickly even things up before fellow summer acquisition Denis Zakaria gave Chelsea the lead with his first Chelsea goal.
The Player of the Match award went to England’s Mount, who has now admitted he felt Zakaria was more deserving.
Mason Mount: “The lads have been battering me the last couple of games I’ve got man of the match as they don’t think I deserved it, today I don’t think I deserve it! “When I look at a game the negatives stick out in my head, and I gave the ball away too much. That’s how I am.” pic.twitter.com/xOkUr3upjZ

What Did Mount Say?
“We changed the formation a little bit,” Mount said. “It allowed me to drift and connect the midfield, and get forward as well. I felt good. It was a nice position for me.

“Denis Zakaria came in and was unbelievable. He deserves man of the match more than me, and he scored as well.
“To step up after not playing, and starting the game, was brilliant. I’m very happy for him to get this opportunity and to do so well.”
