Chelsea have reportedly failed in their latest attempt to reach an agreement with Mason Mount on a new contract.
Mount has emerged as a key member of the squad since joining the first team in August 2020 and signing a long-term contract at the same time.
During his 188 appearances across all competitions, he has scored 33 goals and provided 37 assists, but that ratio has not carried over into this season.
Mount has only three goals and two assists in 20 Premier League appearances, his worst run in England’s top flight.
Nevertheless, Chelsea’s new hierarchy is determined to extend the academy graduate’s contract, bolstering their work with some of his teammates.
Todd Boehly is eager to tie the club’s most prized assets down to six-year or longer contracts, a plan that will help the club’s position with FFP.
Mount, who has less than 18 months left on his current contract, is now considered one of Boehly’s top priorities ahead of the summer.
However, according to the Daily Mail, Mount is yet to give his approval to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge.
According to the report, there is a significant gap between what is being offered and what Mount is willing to accept in order to continue representing the Blues.

The England international allegedly wants to earn around £240,000 per week, which is three times what he is currently earning at the West Londoners.
While negotiations are likely to continue, Chelsea cannot afford to risk losing Mount on a free transfer in 2024.
In the past, Liverpool have been linked with Mount, though it is unclear how much Chelsea would demand if they received an offer from a direct rival.
