Juan Mata has insisted that he did not have a falling-out with Jose Mourinho before he was sold to Manchester United by Chelsea.
The Spanish playmaker was deemed to be surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge shortly after Mourinho’s return to Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2013.
He was eventually shipped off to Manchester United in January 2014, but has since been reunited with Mourinho after the Portuguese coach was appointed at Old Trafford last summer.
Mata has been a regular fixture in the first team under Mourinho at Manchester United so far this season.
And the Spaniard has lifted the lid on how his transfer from Chelsea to Manchester United unfolded three years ago.
Speaking on the BBC’s Premier League Show, Spain international Mata said: “Sometimes in life and in football as well, change comes and you have to embrace it.
“When Jose came I was not playing a lot. I had the chance to go to another great club and it was a good offer for Chelsea as well so that’s how it worked.
“No, [there was no fall out], no I think it was a football reason or a style or something like that but we never had a personal problem. We are working together now and it’s going fine.”
Mata will be hoping to feature for Manchester United when the Red Devils take on Southampton in the EFL Cup final on Sunday afternoon at Wembley.
