Mauricio Pochettino Appointed New Head Coach Of US Men’s National Team

The US Soccer Federation has finally announced the choice of Mauricio Pochettino as the Men’s National Team’s new head coach, making the news Friday night before the team’s 1-1 friendly match with New Zealand. Pochettino’s first games in charge will take place next month, during the October international break.

Pochettino departed Chelsea by mutual consent at the end of last season, revealing a deepening divide inside the Chelsea hierarchy that has now reached a breaking point.

But it isn’t Poch’s issue. His primary concern now is preparing the team for the 2026 World Cup, which will be staged in the United States, Canada, and Mexico (all three receiving automatic bids).

“Mauricio is a multiple-time winner with a strong commitment to player development and a track record of assembling cohesive and competitive teams. His track record speaks for itself, and I am certain that he is the best candidate to maximize the enormous potential of our outstanding team. We are happy to have Mauricio on board as we embark on this exciting road toward worldwide success

The appointment means that both the US Men’s and Women’s National Teams are now coached by ex-Chelsea coaches, with Emma Hayes earning Olympic gold in her brief tenure in command of the USWNT.
