Mauricio Pochettino Could Become Next England Manager

The Football Association is looking for a new England manager for the first time in eight years following the announcement that Gareth Southgate will be leaving his position.

Within two days following England’s defeat in the 2024 Euro final, Southgate made his announcement.

By winning more tournament knockout matches than all other managers combined since 1966, Southgate has emerged as England’s most successful manager since that year’s tournament in Germany.

It will be difficult to follow him.

The FA has stated that they aim to select a new England manager begins as soon as possible although there are provisions for an interim manager.

“The process for appointing Gareth’s successor is now under way and we aim to have our new manager confirmed as soon as possible,” stated FA Chief Executive Mark Bullingham.

September marks the start of our UEFA Nations League campaign, and in case an interim solution is required, we have it ready.”

However, the ideal applicant could already be in the wings.  After Southgate leaves, football.london understands that Mauricio Pochettino will be eager to take over.

With bookies, Pochettino is among the front-runners for the position.

He is the Argentinean’s fourth favorite, behind Eddie Howe, Lee Carsley, and Graham Potter.

He made the decision to split ways with the Chelsea board and Enzo Maresca took over in west London.

Given his emphasis on possession-based aggressive football and the fact that he is unemployed, Pochettino would probably be a favored pick.
