McGillvary eager to take GB chance

Huddersfield Giants star Jermaine McGillvary is hoping to make the most of his Great Britain opportunity this weekend. McGillvary lines up on the wing for the Lions against a Tonga Invitational XIII in Hamilton on Saturday, with Sydney Roosters’ Ryan Hall lining up on the opposite flank for GB. The 31-year-old was not expected to be named in the starting line-up but an injury to St Helens’ Tommy Makinson, who dislocated his shoulder in their Super League Grand Final win and was ruled out of the tour, left the door open. The Great Britain team returns for the first time in 12 years and McGillvary, who has never played for the Lions, is hoping he can do his country proud after being handed this chance to impress. “Tommy is the best winger in Super League and one of the best wingers in the world,” he was quoted as saying by the Yorkshire Post. “For sure, if he was in this squad he’d be the starting winger. “I realise that. It’s unfortunate he’s not but now me and Hally get the chance and, hopefully, we can do the job justice as he was outstanding in the Test series last year and has been outstanding all through the season.”
