McNeil aiming to cap off fine week

Burnley winger Dwight McNeil says a win against Leicester on Saturday afternoon would cap off a great week. The young prospect made his first appearance for the England Under-21’s when they played Slovenia in a friendly match in Maribor.
The game ended 2-2 but it was then their European Under-21 qualifying match where they thrashed Austria 5-1 thanks to a hat trick from Leeds’ on-loan striker Eddie Nketiah and a brace from Chelsea’ Callum Hudson-Odoi.
McNeil’s performance was raved about as a perfect cross teed up the third goal for Nketiah to head in.
His stock is continuing to rise this season for both club and country as he heads into the Clarets’ tough-looking away match against Leicester on Saturday.
Nineteen-year-old McNeil has played every Premier League game so far this season for Sean Dyche’s men and has been one of the best performers in a Claret and Blue shirt.
Leicester will be a step up though with Brendan Rodgers’ side currently fourth in the Premier League and only very narrowly lost to Liverpool 2-1 before the international break.
Burnley head into the game unbeaten in four after their 1-0 triumph against Everton and McNeil believes their momentum can carry them to further good results. “For a couple of hours, we went fourth in the league, which shows how good a start we’ve had. Hopefully, we can kick on from here,” he said. “I don’t think we’ll get any free games any more because of that position we’re in. But hopefully we can keep doing what we have been as a team and take it into the next two games.”
McNeil has happy memories of facing Leicester, having scored just his second goal in a fledgeling career when the Foxes visited Turf Moor.
However, it proved to be a bittersweet day as Leicester triumphed 2-1 in the March clash.
A win could potentially lift Burnley to third if other results go their way on Saturday.
