Dwight McNeil says he doesn’t pay any attention to rumours surrounding his future as he is fully focused on Burnley. The winger broke into the Clarets side last season and emerged as a potential target for Italian champions Juventus during the summer transfer window but Burnley managed to keep hold.
The 19-year-old has been an ever-present in the Clarets side this season and has started all nine of their Premier League games to date.
There may well be further speculation over McNeil’s future in the build-up to the January transfer window, but he insists he has no desire to move on just yet as he feels he can develop further at Turf Moor.
McNeil says he ignored the links with Juve over the summer and is concentrating on Burnley for the time being. “In the summer I was just focused on coming back in pre-season well and fit and looking to kick on from last season and I think I did well,” he told reporters. “I just want to build with it now with Burnley.”
McNeil made his England Under-21 debut over the international break as he featured in the 2-2 friendly draw with Slovenia and the 5-1 win over Austria in Euro Under-21 qualifying.
The Clarets star managed three goals last season and is yet to open his account this term, although he has managed three assists in the Premier League.
McNeil is under contract until 2023 and Burnley have the option of a further year so they would be under no pressure to sell if a bid did come in but they may be tempted to hand him an improved contract in the not too distant future regardless to ward off any interest from elsewhere.
