Ben Mee is confident Saturday’s 3-0 defeat at Sheffield United will not seriously damage morale within the Burnley camp. The Clarets travelled to Bramall Lane on the back of a week which had seen both camps exchange compliments, with Chris Wilder praising the way the Lancashire side have established themselves in the Premier League, while Jack Cork hailed the Blades’ style of play.
However, it was a far from pleasant experience for Sean Dyche’s outfit, being taken apart by the intensity of their hosts.
Midfielder John Lundstram scored twice before John Fleck completed the scoring just before the break to seal a 3-0 win for Wilder’s outfit.
It was a resounding defeat for Burnley but they must now rouse themselves ahead of Saturday’s visit of West Ham to Turf Moor.
The Hammers are struggling, failing to win any of their last six in all competitions to drop out of the European running.
Manuel Pellegrini’s men sit 13th in the table, a point and a place above Saturday’s hosts, and need a victory to reignite their campaign ahead of a run of games that sees them face Tottenham, Chelsea and Arsenal in three of their next five outings.
In contrast, Saturday’s match sparks a streak of three winnable fixtures for Burnley, with Watford and Crystal Palace their remaining duels in November.
A defeat like last Saturday’s could harm morale within the camp but Dyche’s team have shown they can pick themselves up in the past and captain Mee will be at the forefront of that mission.
While the coach has hinted at changes, the 30-year-old says all involved will be sticking together in order to make amends for their dismal display in South Yorkshire. “We’ll pick ourselves up, be positive this week and have a good few days’ training ahead of a big game,” he is quoted as saying by the Lancashire Telegraph. “We need to analyse it and make sure it doesn’t happen again. “The thing with football is though, you can’t get too high or too low, and we’re quite good at that to be fair.”
