Inter Miami thrashed Atlanta United 4-0 as Lionel Messi scored twice in 22 minutes in his full debut for the club.
The talismanic forward scored twice in the opening period before setting up teammate Robert Taylor’s goal in the second for an easy League Cup victory.
Messi celebrated and pointed at Inter Miami owner David Beckham in the stands after scoring his second goal.
Last week, the 36-year-old made his new US bosses aware of himself by scoring an injury-time free kick to secure a 2-1 victory over Cruz Azul of Mexico.
Following Messi’s most recent display of dominance, teammate Taylor praised the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner as the finest player in the world.
“He can do everything on the ball, he can keep it in tight spaces and he makes the right decision 100 per cent of the time,” said Taylor as reported by the Evening Standard.
“He brings so much quality to the team, he’s the best player in the world.
“This is what he does, he scores two goals, he scored last game, gets another assist. It’s a dream come true to play with him.”
