PSG forward, Lionel Messi is reportedly set for a sensational return to Barcelona this summer, following a torrid season at the French club.
According to Catalunya Radio as reported by Four Four Two, the Argentine told his former teammate and current Barça manager Xavi that he would dearly love to return to the club.
Prior to Xavi taking over, the team had to let their talismanic forward leave on a free transfer in 2021. This is because they couldn’t afford to meet the La Liga financial regulation needed to register the player.
When he was 13 years old, Messi moved to Barcelona from South America to begin his football career. After moving up the ranks at La Masia, he went on to win every available trophy for the club.
He won his seventh Ballon d’Or and the World Cup with his home Argentina in Qatar last year after joining Paris Saint-Germain.
Major League Soccer have been widely rumored to be luring Messi and his family away from Europe. But the thought of returning to Barcelona has apparently always appealed to Messi and his family. This is due to their emotional connection to the Blaugrana.
Given the current state of upheaval at PSG, an extension of his contract there looks doubtful.

A story from El Nacional from more than a year ago claimed that Messi’s wife Antonela Roccuzzo is in favor of returning to Catalonia. But Messi’s father Jorge is opposed to the idea. Jorge Messi feels that Joan Laporta “betrayed” his son after running for the club presidency in 2021. With the promise that he could keep the star at Camp Nou.
Messi has the option of initiating a third year at PSG should he so choose.
