Lionel Messi has been talking up the talent of his Barcelona teammate Andres Iniesta in extracts from the Spanish midfielder’s new autobiography.
The two have played together since Messi was promoted the Barca senior team in 2004, and have been apart of several successful seasons both domestically and in Europe with the Catalan giants.
During their time at Camp Nou they have won La Liga eight times, the Copa del Rey four times and also won four Champions League trophies. Last season they completed the treble of league, Copa and Supercopa.
In the book titled The Artist: Being Iniesta the Argentinian international said: “When you’re a kid playing on the streets you take on board things that are very useful to you later. You get used to playing with older players and not changing your game because of that; you play your way.
“Andrés and I are similar in that we both use our bodies a lot, to avoid opponents. But he has something that always amazes me: there’s always a moment when you think you’re going to catch him, when you think you’re going to get the ball off him, but you can’t.
“He’s not especially quick, but he has that ability to always get away from you, which comes from his technique.”
Both Messi and Iniesta were on target in Barca’s 7-0 win over Scottish champions Celtic on Tuesday night, the former netted a treble to overtake Cristiano Ronaldo for scoring the most number of hat-tricks (6) than any other player in Champions League history, while the latter crashed home a brilliant volley.
