Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil has been crowned the club’s Player of the Season, after a fantastic campaign with the Gunners.
The 27-year-old has had a fine season with Arsenal and whilst Arsene Wenger’s side slipped off as the campaign went on, Ozil was still heralded for his performances.
The Germany international, who registered a Premier league-high of 19 assists, helped Arsenal finish second in the top-flight ahead of rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
Wenger’s side finished the season without silverware, but Ozil’s performances were certainly one of the bright sparks in an otherwise turbulent campaign.
Arsenal confirmed the news on their official website today and went on to reveal that Ozil won the majority of the votes.
Ozil’s start to the season was eye-catching to say the least and whilst his form dipped slightly in 2016, it was still a strong campaign overall.
The 2013 summer arrival from Real Madrid also created more chances (144) than any other Premier League player this season – highlighting the sort of player Arsenal have on their hands.
Arsenal will be eager to keep a hold of the former Werder Bremen man and there have been talks of a new deal being imminent for the crafty playmaker.
Should Ozil regain the sort of form he was in at the start of the season for the next campaign, then Wenger will certainly be hoping for another title push.
