Former Tottenham Hotspur and Middlesdbrough striker Mido has expressed his disbelief at Gareth Southgate leading the contenders to be appointed new England manager.
Roy Hodgson wasted no time in handing in his resignation last night after the Three Lions suffered another early exit at a major tournament at the hands of Iceland.
The Euro 2016 campaign has been disastrous for Hodgson, with the former Liverpool manager now having the record of having won just three games over three major international tournaments during his time in charge.
However, news quickly turned to who might succeed Hodgson as the next England boss, with a host of names immediately linked to the highest paid job at this summer’s tournament.
I can't believe that in England they are talking about @GarethSouthgate to become the new Manager!! I hope he learned since the @Boro days!!

And under-21 boss Gareth Southgate was installed as 4/1 favourite at full time by SkyBet, which prompted a warning from his former player Mido.
The 33-year-old, who joined at the Riverside in 2007 and played under Southgate, laughed that he hopes Southgate has learned since his time in charge of Middlesbrough.
Southgate oversaw Middlesbrough’s relegation from the Premier League in 2009, with his side falling from eighth place in November 2008 to finish 19th.
The former Aston Villa and England defender has gone on to look after the under-21’s as manager, but his lack of experience has left many fans questioning his suitability to the senior side role, while Mido clearly feels his time at Boro was not enough to warrant consideration.
