Former Roma striker Mido has explained how a last-minute agreement between Juventus and Zlatan Ibrahimovic derailed plans which would have seen him head to Turin.
Mido, who was set to leave Marseille for Serie A in the summer of 2004, initially had a deal in place with the Old Lady.
Speaking to the DMC TV channel, the current Wadi Degla coach said: “In the summer of 2004, me and Zlatan Ibrahimovic were going to the Serie A. We both had the same agent, Mino Raiola, I had an agreement to move to Juventus and Ibra was going to join AS Roma.”
The Egyptian international was scheduled to undergo medical tests after arriving in Turin, however, the plans changed as soon as he arrived at the airport.
“When I arrived at the airport Raiola called me and told me that I have to cancel my trip as Juventus made a new agreement with Ibra and I would be going to Roma instead,” he added.
Mido’ arrived at Roma in 2004, however, his time in the Italian capital was miserable – failing to score in his eight total appearances before he was sent on loan to Tottenham Hotspur.
“Fabio Capello was supporting Ibra in his first season and kept supporting him till he performed well in Serie A, unlike what happened with me in Roma,” he continued.
Mido scored 13 goals whilst on loan at Tottenham, however, he only lasted one season after securing a permanent contract, having unsuccessful spells at four other Premier League clubs including Middlesbrough and West Ham.
