Former Egypt striker Mido has explained how he “almost killed” Zlatan Ibrahimovic during the duo’s time together at Ajax.
The new Manchester United signing has enjoyed a storied career in European football, with his first transfer being from Malmo to Ajax in 2001.
During his time in Amsterdam, Ibrahimovic played alongside Mido, with the strikers having since stolen headlines aplenty with their somewhat outspoken styles.
Now, Mido has detailed his most heated moment with the Swedish superstar, confirming on documentary Becoming Zlatan (via The Sun) that he launched a pair of scissors towards his teammate.
The 33-year-old, who went on to play for four Premier League clubs, said: “I was very upset I didn’t start [a league game against PSV Eindhoven].
“When I came on, we were 2-0 down, I think, and I started arguing with Zlatan on the pitch. I was shouting at everyone and Zlatan was shouting back at me.
“I had scissors in my hand as I was taking off the wrapping on my ankles. Ten minutes later, I went into the shower and he was sitting at the Jacuzzi.
“We just looked at each other and started laughing. I said to Zlatan: ‘You know that I almost killed you?’ And he said: ‘Yeah, I know.’”
While Mido retired from the sport three years ago, Ibrahimovic is still shining as one of the world’s great strikers.
Last season, he notched 38 goals and 13 assists during his final season in Ligue 1, helping Paris Saint-Germain to a fourth successive title.
Donning the No.10 jersey, Ibrahimovic also won an impressive 58% of his duels in the league during the campaign – the third-best record of PSG’s outfielders.
Ibrahimovic is now linking up with his former Inter Milan coach, Jose Mourinho, at Old Trafford.
The pair will face Premier League champions Leicester City in their first game at United, as the FA Cup holders travel to Wembley for the Community Shield.
