Mikel Arteta Offers Update On William Saliba Red Card Appeal As Arsenal Boss Issues Demand

Mikel Arteta will let his Arsenal managers decide whether or not to appeal William Saliba’s red card against Bournemouth.

On Saturday’s loss, Saliba was furious after bringing down Evanilson shortly before the break as the Cherries star attempted to sprint onto Leandro Trossard’s poor pass back.

Referee Rob Jones first issued a yellow card to the Frenchman.

However, after reviewing the event, VAR Jarred Gillett called Jones to the pitchside monitor.

After seeing many replays of the event, the official changed Saliba’s yellow card to a red one.

The Gunners’ first setback of the season would come as they lost 2-0 to the hosts. Saliba will now be suspended for their next three league games and Mikel Arteta has declined to confirm whether or not an appeal would be filed, reports Mirror.

“I give the club more time to figure out the situation. “They will have to make that decision,” the manager of Arsenal stated on Monday. It all comes down to perception. We want to win no matter what, but the truth is that we made things extremely tough for ourselves.

The Premier League provided details of Gillet’s review in a statement. They stated: “The VAR deemed that Saliba denied an obvious goal-scoring opportunity and recommended an on-field review. The referee then upgraded the yellow to a red card.”
