Since returning from a loan stint with Feyenoord in the summer, he has only been in the squad for the North London Derby victory against Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend and the opening day win at Crystal Palace.
Although Nelson’s last competitive match-starting moment for Arsenal dates back to January 2021. This may be set to change on Thursday night as he is expected to replace Gabriel Martinelli on the left side of the attack as a result of Emile Smith Rowe’s absence.
Will The Arsenal Youngster Start On Thursday?
After recovering from a muscular injury sustained in training prior to the 4-2 victory over Leicester City in August, Nelson has been challenged by Arteta to take advantage of the opportunities that are sure to present themselves throughout a busy Arsenal fixture schedule.
“After the spell that he had last year on loan, we wanted him back to see if there are any changes and there’s a prospect that we can really take to the next level,” the Arsenal manager said in his pre-match press conference.
