John Obi Mikel believes that Juan Cuadrado’s transfer to Juventus was a key moment in Victor Moses‘s career.
The Nigerian international has rejuvinated his career after becoming a wing- back in Antonio Conte’s 3-4-3 formation and has developed into a key part of Chelsea’s title challenge.
And Mikel believes that his countryman sensed his opporunity to become a regular after Cuadrado, who played as a wing-back for Juventus, decided to move on.
Mikel told the Evening Standard: “It was a key moment when Cuadrado went back to Juventus – Victor knew that as well.
“There was a chance Cuadrado would have had the right wing-back role instead, but he wanted to leave Chelsea.
“The situation with Cuadrado made it easier for Victor, but he had already impressed in pre-season by that stage.”
Moses joined Chelsea from Wigan for £9million in 2012 and went on loan to several clubs over a four-year period, failing to convince the club he was worthy of a starting role.
However, the change in management gave Moses the opportunity to play under a new system in which he combines defensive and attacking responsibilities.
The Super Eagles forward has already scored three goals this season and has been ever-present in Chelsea’s remarkable 10-match unbeaten run.
