Milan star Montolivo thanks fans for death threats

AC Milan captain Riccardo Montolivo has sarcastically thanked fans on social media after receiving death threats following rupturing his ACL.

The Italian international damaged his knee ligaments during a tackle with Spain defender Sergio Ramos in their 1-1 draw in a World Cup qualifier last week.

Montolivo has since undergone surgery on his ruptured anterior cruciate ligament and took time to thank supporters on social media for their support.

However, he has also sarcastically thanked those people who sent him death threats and wished for him to break his leg as well as his ligaments.

“A heartfelt thanks to everyone who spared a thought for me … fans, colleagues, professionals,” the Italian wrote on Facebook.

“It was lovely, at such a stressful time, to receive so many expressions of care and affection.

“And love to all those who wished me a broken tibia and fibula, the rupture of all my ligaments and death…with the hope that life is able to make you grow in terms of manners and respect for other human beings.”

Montolivo now faces missing possibly the rest of the current season which is a huge blow to both him and AC Milan, who have started well under Vincenzo Montella’s management and sit sixth in the table, five points behind leaders Juventus.

The 31-year-old midfielder has played in all seven of the Rossoneri’s matches this season and has created 10 chances, which is the second most at the club.
