Everton defender Yerry Mina says he feels strong, confident and like making up for almost two years lost to injury. Everton are set to make a late decision on Mina ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash with Tottenham after the Colombian centre-back came off in their 2-0 Carabao Cup home win over Watford on Tuesday with a knee issue.
That was the second straight game that the ex-Barcelona defender had come off in and it raised concerns about Mina’s susceptibility to injury after his struggles in the past.
But Mina, who started only ten Premier League games in his first campaign at Goodison Park, says he feels good about himself right now.
He told the Daily Mail: “Things were very difficult last year. It is easy to be happy when you are in a good moment. It is when the bad times come that it is a little harder. When you have that frustration and sadness and things are getting you down, it is important to keep that good spirit.”
Mina, who also recently thanked Silva for keeping faith in him, is grateful to Everton physio Danny Donachie for the role he played in getting him back to full fitness. “They were injuries that you could not explain, all in the same area around my foot,” said the 25-year-old. “But Danny was always there, helping me. Now I feel good about myself. I feel strong, confident. It is almost like God making up for those two bad years.”
After last week’s 3-2 defeat at Brighton, manager Marco Silva needs a result against Spurs at Goodison Park on Sunday following a run of five losses in their last six Premier League games.
Everton are currently down in 16th place, just two points above the relegation zone, and have been far too inconsistent in the first quarter of the campaign.
