Mkhitaryan hits out at Emery

Arsenal midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan says Unai Emery’s tactics denied him the chance to play his best football for the club. Mkhitaryan is currently on loan at Italian giants Roma in Serie A, after he decided to try a new challenge this summer.
Roma paid €3million to secure the Armenia international’s services on a season-long loan deal, and he rewarded them with a debut goal on September 15 against Sassuolo.
The former Borussia Dortmund has only made four appearances this season, but he is still hopeful about securing a permanent move to the Italian capital.
Mkhitaryan admits he just wants to play football regularly at this stage of his career, but he claims Emery’s tactics did not suit his game.
He failed to make an impression, despite scoring six goals in 25 Premier League games last season, as Arsenal missed out on a place in the top four in the Premier League.
When asked why his form was flat, he told FourFourTwo magazine: “He paid more attention to tactics, so my role changed. “I was starting as a winger but had to build play with the defensive midfielder. It’s why I couldn’t contribute as many goals or assists. “I like to play more freely and move wherever there’s space, but you have to do the job that the manager asks. Emery and Raul Sanllehi assured me I was important for Arsenal, but I signed for Roma because they believed in me more.”
Since his exit, the Gunners have struggled to improve under Emery’s stewardship, but they still remain in the hunt for a top-four spot. Arsenal have failed to win any of their last five matches in all competitions, and Emery is under pressure.
The likes of Jose Mourinho, Massimiliano Allegri and Luis Enrique are all being linked with the role, should the Arsenal board relieve the former Sevilla coach of his duties.
Emery continues to work with the players that are not on international duty as they prepare to do battle with Southampton on Saturday November 23.
