Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos believes Luka Modric’s goal against Granada on Sunday night was further testimony to just how crucial the midfielder is to the club.
Zinedine Zidane’s men travelled to 19th-placed Granada on Sunday and were looking to build on from their comprehensive 6-0 win over Espanyol last a week prior.
And they seemed to be on the perfect road to three points when Karim Benzema struck in the first half, until the 27-year-old’s goal was cancelled out by Youssef El Arabi.
Just when it looked like Real Madrid were set to drop points for the second time in five La Liga games under Zidane, Modric came to the rescue with a stunning 20-yard strike.
The 30-year-old picked up the ball and tried his luck from distance five minutes from time, in turn clinching the three points and also grabbing his first league goal of the campaign.
“This goal maybe makes him a bit more visible, but, the way I see football, Modric is indispensable,” Ramos said, as reported by Sky Sports.
“He is the spine of the team and very important player for us.”
Modric joined Real Madrid back in 2012 from Tottenham Hotspur and has overcome the criticism he was heavily faced with in his opening season in Spain.
The central midfielder has now racked up 156 appearances across all competitions over the last three-and-a-half years for Real Madrid, winning a Champions League, Copa del Rey and Uefa Super Cup, among other silverware.
