Al Mokawloon, the first club Mohamed Salah played for, has reacted negatively to Todd Boehly’s statement that the Liverpool star is a graduate of Chelsea’s academy.
The Egyptian international did spend time at Stamford Bridge from 2014 and 2016. However, he rose through the youth systems in his native country, also making his mark at FC Basel.
Boehly, the new Blues owner, seemed to be oblivious of this reality. βWe have one of the best academies in the world,” he said.
“If you look at what our academy has developed, our academy is Mo Salah, Kevin De Bruyne. More recently Tammy Abraham, Reece James, Mason Mount, Trevoh Chalobah.”
In case it was necessary to point out how funny this statement is, Salah and De Bruyne had both played 120+ games of first team professional football before Chelsea bought them. Academy graduates? πππ pic.twitter.com/rbt7v49KrR

What Did Al Mokawloon Say About Salah?
Al Mokawloon, the club that gave Salah his senior debut, understandably had a negative reaction to Boehly’s remarks.
In response, Mohamed Adel Fathi, a member of the club’s board of directors, wrote on Facebook: βWhat the new owner of Chelsea says shows a lack of understanding.
“Mohamed Salah is a source of pride for the Al Mokawloon Club and Egyptian and Arab football. And we are honoured that he is one of our sons.
